Tiger Woods was among the many golfers who were not happy with the way Lexi Thompson was penalized at the ANA Inspiration on Sunday.
Thompson was penalized four strokes after a viewer emailed the tour about a violation Thompson committed a day earlier (full details here). Thompson was informed of the penalty during her final round on Sunday and still managed to send things to a playoff. Nevertheless, being told that your score from a day earlier was wrong and that you were penalized by a viewer didn’t sit well with many.
Take a look at this tweet Tiger Woods sent in response to the controversy:
Viewers at home should not be officials wearing stripes. Let's go @Lexi, win this thing anyway.

Many other golfers, including Tiger’s niece, Cheyenne, voiced their opinions on Twitter.
Viewers should not be able to call in rulings.

Who's watching what is happening to @Lexi @LPGA? Can't believe this is happening. A viewers calls in a rule a day late or ever…. Not right

This is our livelihood and a caller who had to have slo-mo and replayed the clip caught this tiny infraction. Get a life! No more call ins!

Come on @Lexi you can do it!!!!!
We really need to do something about people being able to call in. Especially days later . Poor girl— Brittany Lincicome (@Brittany1golf) April 3, 2017
