Tiger Woods is hoping to overcome incredibly steep odds this week to win his 16th major, and he will have a very notable swing consultant helping him along the way.

Woods told reporters on Tuesday that his 15-year-old son Charlie will be inside the ropes with him at Pinehurst No. 2 in Pinehurst, N.C. Tiger says Charlie will be more than just a spectator, as the elder Woods trusts his son as a swing coach.

“It’s great for us to be able to share these moments together. As far as his responsibilities are, it’s the same (as any other swing coach),” Tiger said. “I trust him with my swing and my game. He’s seen it more than anybody else in the world. He’s seen me hit more golf balls than anyone.

“I tell him what to look for, especially with putting. He gave me a couple of little side bits today, which is great because I get so entrenched in hitting certain putts to certain pins and I tend to forget some of the things I’m working on. I just want to see the balls roll, and he reminds me every now and again, which is great. We have a great relationship and a great rapport like that. It’s a wonderful experience for both of us.”

Charlie was hoping to be competing against his father at Pinehurst, but the teenager failed to qualify for the most challenging test in golf. He is still getting a front-row seat to all the action.

Tiger and Charlie have played in several events together over the last few years. There have even been times when Charlie looks exactly like his father on the course. If Tiger pulls off a miracle to win the 2024 US Open, Charlie will get credit for an assist.
