Crazy video from Pinehurst shows how tough greens will be at US Open
A crazy video made the rounds on social media Tuesday that showed just how difficult the greens are expected to be at the US Open at Pinehurst No. 2 later this week.
Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina is known for its “turtleback greens.” The shape of the greens are domed like a turtle shell, which means if your ball lands on the wrong spot, it could go the wrong direction — by a long way.
Take a look at this video that showed a ball being dropped maybe around 20-plus feet from the hole and ending up rolling all the way into an area with sand and grass.

You don’t want to be on the wrong end of a roll like that.
Not only are the greens shaped in a difficult manner, but they are very fast.
“I mean, they are extremely fast. If they get any firmer and faster, the greens, I mean, they’d be borderline. They already are borderline,” Wyndham Clark said this week.
The US Open has been known for making its courses extremely difficult, resulting in scores much closer to par compared to the several shots under par that we typically see from winning scores at most PGA Tour events.
This will be the fourth time the US Open has been held at Pinehurst No. 2. The course is set to host the major four more times after this year through 2047.
