I’ve made it quite clear in the past that I cannot stand frivolous lawsuits. They serve to liven the doldrums of lawyer’s and other people’s lives, and they are merely a nuisance. It’s a shame and a weakness in our legal system that we allow such suits to serve as a substitution for lazy people who should be otherwise pursuing a real job. With that disclaimer out of the way, let’s move onto the frivolous suit of the day. Dwyane Wade and his ex-wife Siohvaughn Wade have been fighting out an ugly divorce for a few years. One of the first shots fired in the case came from Siohvaughn who accused Dwyane of giving her STDs. The latest is a lawsuit from Siohvaughn who’s suing Dwyane’s current girlfriend, actress Gabrielle Union.
It alleges Union “engaged in sexual foreplay” in front of [the Wades’ two sons], which “severely inflicted the Plaintiffs emotionally and mentally.” It also claims that the boys received “medium size gifts” from Dwyane Wade for Christmas last year, while Union got “the biggest gift of all.”
“Defendant has played sexually explicit roles, including roles as a seductress,” the lawsuit reads. “Defendant has apparently decided to take her role beyond the films and into the home of a married man, Dwyane Wade, in the presence of his two minor children.”
I completely understand where Siohvaughn is coming from if she feels like Dwyane is abandoning his children; professional athletes are on the road for much of the year and that makes it difficult to be an active parent. I can see where she would be concerned by Dwyane’s behavior with Gabrielle in front of the kids. I can even understand her complaint that Dwyane has caused her mental pain. The problem is all that should be addressed in their divorce and custody hearings, not a separate freaking lawsuit where she complains about present sizes. Are you kidding me? Saying that Dwyane is focusing and spending more money on his new girlfriend rather than his children is legitimate. But complaining about the size of a gift seems like the worst way to prove the point she’s trying to make. Besides, isn’t this on Dwyane, not Gabrielle? Seems like Siohvaughn is trying to grab money and become a disturbance wherever possible.
