Sunday’s NHL Stadium Series showdown between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Boston Bruins at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla., had it all.

It had plenty of goals, impressive goaltending down the stretch and perhaps most memorably, goalies dropping the gloves and going at it in the middle of the ice.

With 8:59 remaining on the clock in the second frame, Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy and Bruins netminder Jeremy Swayman stole the show by going mano a mano for the first-ever goalie fight in an NHL outdoor game.

You can watch the fight here.

The 31-year-old Vasilevskiy told reporters after the game that his “reflex” kicked in when he saw the action happening on the other side of the ice, via Diandra Loux of The Hockey News.

The two-time Stanley Cup champion goaltender also said that he was glad that Swayman “accepted, so big thanks to him.”

Goalie fights never fail to energize a crowd, and that encounter between Vasilevskiy and Swayman became an even bigger spectacle since it played out in front of over 64,000 fans in the stadium.

Vasilevskiy and the Lightning ended up completing a come-from-behind 6-5 victory via shootout, as they turned things around after being down 5-1.

Tampa Bay forward Jake Guentzel buried the only goal in the shootout, while Vasilevskiy picked up a goalie win despite allowing 5 goals on 34 shots faced.
