The Minnesota Wild signed star winger Kirill Kaprizov to the richest contract in NHL history on Tuesday, and general manager Bill Guerin had a great comment about the record deal.

Kaprizov has signed an 8-year, $136 million contract with Minnesota that ties him to the franchise through the 2033-34 season. The Wild officially announced the deal in a press conference on Tuesday, and Guerin dropped an F-bomb right at the start.

As Kaprizov and Guerin approached the podium, a reporter asked the 28-year-old if he is excited about his new contract. Before Kaprizov could respond, Guerin gave a serious look and said “he f—ing better be.”

There was another funny moment later in the press conference when Kaprizov was asked how he will celebrate his new contract. He said he was going to “play a game tonight,” as the Wild had a preseason matchup with the Winnipeg Jets.

Guerin joked that the two “have very different ways to celebrate.” The GM said he was planning to have a couple of martinis.

Kaprizov, Guerin and the Wild have plenty to celebrate. Guerin lured Kaprizov out of the KHL in 2020, and the Russian has become one of the best players in the NHL. Kaprizov had 40-plus goals in three consecutive seasons from 2021-2024. He had 25 goals and 31 assists last season despite being limited to 41 games.

There is no question Kaprizov is happy with his new deal, and Guerin should be as well.
