Blues goalie Jordan Binnington pulled for first time in career

Jordan Binnington

Jordan Binnington experienced a career-first on Saturday, but it was not the kind of first he wanted.

The St. Louis Blues goalie was pulled from a game for the first time in his career. He had allowed five goals on 19 shots and was replaced by Jake Allen with around seven minutes remaining in the second period with his team down 5-1 to the Boston Bruins in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final.

Binnington allowed three goals in the first period and then another at the beginning of the second while Boston was on the power play thanks to a lost challenge. He was finally pulled after allowing a fifth goal. The fifth goal was Boston’s second power play goal of the period.

Binnington had played every game of the postseason for the Blues, so this was Allen’s first playoff appearance. Allen last saw action on April 3 in the regular season.

Binnington, 25, was the league leader with a 1.89 goals against average in the regular season.
