There have been a variety of different reactions this week to San Jose Sharks rookie Tomas Hertl’s breakout performance against the New York Rangers. On one end of the spectrum, you have people like Washington Capitals coach Adam Oates who think Hertl was showboating and is lucky he didn’t get laid out for it. At the other end you have Joe Thornton, sitting all by himself, with a truly unbelievable reaction to his teammate’s performance.
Thornton was first asked if he thought Hertl was showing off by scoring four goals — including this incredible between-the-legs move to give his team an 8-2 lead.
“Shut up, have you ever played the game?” he replied, via The Province.
And then things got really, really weird.
“I’d have my c— out if I scored four goals,” Thornton added. “I’d have my c— out, stroking it.”
If Thornton has himself a four-goal game at any point this season, the NHL and its broadcasting partners are going to have a serious problem on their hands.
