Watch: Caps fans celebrate team’s first Stanley Cup
Washington Capitals fans celebrated well into the night after their team on Thursday captured their first Stanley Cup.
Thanks to a 4-3 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 5, the Capitals hoisted the Stanley Cup for the first time in franchise history. At the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Alexander Ovechkin celebrated in an inappropriate but awesome fashion. Back in D.C., the scene was bedlam.
Thousands of fans took to the city’s streets to celebrate. Here’s a sample of what it looked like in the nation’s capital.

The Capitals’ victory marks the first championship for a sports team in the Washington D.C. area since the Washington Redskins won Super Bowl Super Bowl XXVI in 1992.
