Report: ESPN writer Wright Thompson in horrific car wreck
ESPN writer Wright Thompson was in a horrific car wreck on Wednesday but is said to be doing OK, according to a report.
A man named John Semmes posted to his church’s Facebook group on Wednesday to notify members that writer John T. Edge and Wright were in a terrible car crash.
“Grateful that FPC member John T Edge and his passenger, Wright Thompson, survived a head-on collision today near Athens, GA. John T is pretty banged up in an Athens hospital, but is happy his Mini Cooper, though totaled, performed so well upon impact. He looks forward to coming home soon. Wright is ok and has been discharged. Your prayers for these two men and their families are encouraged,” Semmes wrote.
Ringer host Chris Vernon confirmed on Twitter that the Wright Thompson who was a passenger in the crash is the prominent ESPN writer. Vernon also said that the crash was between a Mini Cooper and Suburban.
He is no longer on twitter, but I know many of you know my buddy Wright Thompson of ESPN. This happened this morning. Insanely scary but happy that he is ok. pic.twitter.com/mAE2a1rjWw

Thompson is widely recognized as one of the best sports writers in the country. His ESPN the Magazine article in March about Ichiro was a truly superb read.
Based on how bad the damage looked from the photo, it’s a miracle that Thompson was discharged so quickly. Hopefully Edge will be discharged soon too.
