Laila Ali: Ronda Rousey could not beat me in a fight
Laila Ali believes she could beat any woman in a fight, and that includes Ronda Rousey.
Ali, who boxed professionally from 1999-2007 and was 24-0 during her career, provided commentary for the PBC fights on NBC Saturday in Las Vegas. A TMZ cameraman caught up with Ali as she returned home to LAX and asked whether she could take Rousey.
“That’s like a question I’m not even going to answer,” Ali said. “For one, I’m not a UFC fighter, she’s not a boxer. And no woman can beat me, period!”
Though Ali was initially hesitant to compare herself to Rousey, she warmed up and gave a definite answer.
“Of course (Rousey couldn’t beat me)! She’s too much smaller than me anyway. She’s like the size of my daughter, my 3-year-old.”
If we’re talking about a boxing match then yes, I agree with Ali that nobody would beat her. But if it’s an MMA fight, Rousey wins that one in the first round. MMA fighters are much more skill in all-around fighting rather than boxers, who are skilled at just one component of MMA: striking. Just look at how James Toney did against Randy Couture to know how one of those fights would go.
