Mark Martin suffers a gruesome eye injury

MMA fighter Mark Martin suffered a gruesome injury during his fight against Dilano Taylor at the PFL Challenger Series 2 on Saturday night. You probably would never guess how it happened.

Martin was examined by a physician between the first and second rounds after suffering a nasty-looking eye injury. You can see the damage below, but beware that it is graphic:

The injury was not the result of a punch. Martin’s manager AJ Ariosa told Nolan King of MMA Junkie that Martin’s eye popped out of its socket after Martin blew his nose. Martin also suffered an orbital fracture, though it is unclear which came first.

Another update from @AjAriosa.

Martin broke his orbital, but will avoid surgery. He is unable to fly due to pressure concerns, so will drive home from Orlando to Phoenix. Quite to roadtrip, I’ve got to imagine.

We have seen plenty of nasty eye injuries during fights, but we can’t remember another that was the result of a nose blow. Hopefully Martin makes a quick recovery.
