UFC legend Randy Couture was hospitalized last week after he crashed his car during practice runs for an upcoming race, but it sounds like his health is trending in the right direction.
Couture has been practicing to make his National Hot Rod Association racing debut later this year. Last Tuesday, the 62-year-old was airlifted to a burn center to be treated for injuries he suffered in a crash during practice runs at a racetrack in Kansas City, Mo.
Couture was reportedly treated for first- and second-degree burns, trauma injuries and smoke inhalation.
According to a new report from TMZ on Wednesday, Couture has been released from the hospital and is continuing to recover at home.
Couture was one of UFC’s first major stars. He made his UFC debut in 1997 and retired in 2011 after winning six titles. The UFC Hall-of-Famer has done commentary since retiring and also appeared in several films and television shows. He suffered a heart attack in 2019, but made a full recovery.
Couture had said he was hopeful that racing in the NHRA would be “a new way to tickle that competitive spirit that I’ve had most of my life.” It is unclear when he plans to make his debut.
A six-time UFC champion, Couture finished his professional fighting career with a record of 19-11-0.
