Hope Solo blasts Sweden as ‘bunch of cowards’ after loss
If anyone was going to speak out after the U.S. lost to Sweden in the quarterfinals at the Olympics on Friday, you knew it would be Hope Solo. And boy, did she ever speak out.
The USWNT goalkeeper blasted Sweden after the US lost to them on penalty kicks for playing like a “bunch of cowards.” Solo specifically felt Sweden’s style of play for the game was cowardly.

Solo made reference to Pia Sundhage, the former USWNT coach who left after winning gold with the US at the London Olympics in 2012 to go coach Sweden. Sweden has gone 2-0-2 against the U.S. since Sundhage took over. She apparently knows how to best play the US also their tendencies, which helped them win 4-3 in the shootout.
Given how Solo first became famous (infamous?) on the national scene in 2007, her comments here should not surprise you.
