Jozy Altidore leaves with apparent hamstring injury
US striker Jozy Alitodore left Monday’s match against Ghana in the first half with what looked like a hamstring injury. Altidore was chasing down a long pass from Michael Bradley when he grabbed for the back of his leg and immediately dropped to the field. He was carried off and looked to be in serious pain.
With how hot it has been in Brazil, the best case scenario for the US would be that Altidore had a cramp. His reaction made it seem like he thought it was more.
Of course, this becomes a major storyline because — in addition to being one of America’s better players — Altidore is playing the position that many expected Landon Donovan to be playing before he was left off the World Cup roster. Many are already calling it karma, which is obviously extremely unfair to Altidore.
Altidore was replaced by Aron Johannson.
