France’s Samuel Umtiti hilariously mocks handball mistake
France defender Samuel Umtiti cost his team a goal in Saturday’s World Cup game against Australia, but he was able to laugh about the mistake afterward.
During the second half with France ahead 1-0, Umtiti inexplicably raised his arms while jumping to try to defend a header, batting the ball out of midair. A penalty was awarded and Australia converted to level the scores at 1-1, but a Paul Pogba goal ten minutes from full time ensured that the error ultimately wouldn’t cost France the win.
For that reason, perhaps, Umtiti was in a joking mood after the game, sharing a hilarious depiction of the error to his Instagram.

Hey, if you’re Umtiti, you might as well own it, especially if you got away with it while still winning the game. He’ll probably be a bit more careful with his hands next time.
