Cavs’ Kendrick Perkins is hilariously clueless about Star Wars

Kendrick Perkins

You could make the argument that “Star Wars” is the most successful film franchise in U.S. history, and anyone who doesn’t know a thing about it has probably been living under a rock. Apparently Kendrick Perkins thinks the undersides of rocks are quite comfortable.

Following the Cavaliers’ blowout win in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals, Kevin Love asked Kendrick Perkins if he was going to hang out with the fan who was sitting courtside dressed as Chewbacca. Perkins literally had no idea what a Chewbacca was, and his rationale for not knowing is priceless.

That “new stuff” Perkins is referring to actually debuted in 1977, though there have been new installments of the “Star Wars” series in recent years.

For those who didn’t see the fan at Quicken Loans Arena, let’s just say he went all out.

Perkins has yet to play for Cleveland during the playoffs, but he has had no problems making headlines while riding the bench. That’s what happens when you get into altercations with Drake and have no idea what “Star Wars” is.

Kendrick Perkins willing to end beef with Drake

Kendrick Perkins says that he is willing to put his beef with Drake aside.

Perkins and Drake had two verbal altercations during Game 1 of the Cleveland Cavaliers-Toronto Raptors on Tuesday. The first incident happened at halftime, and then there was a second incident after the game.

The NBA issued a warning to the rapper, who is an official ambassador for the Raptors.

Perkins, who was added to the Cavaliers’ roster right before the end of the regular season but has not dressed during the playoffs, says he’ll leave Drake alone if Drake leaves him alone.

“I’m here to support my teammates,” Perkins told ESPN before Game 2. “I’m here to represent the Cleveland Cavaliers. At the end of the day, it isn’t about Perk vs. Drake, that doesn’t even sound right. It’s the Cleveland Cavaliers vs. the Toronto Raptors. Besides, what could he possibly do to me? I mean, really. If he leaves me alone, I’ll leave him alone and that’s all there is.”

He has a point. Although if Drake wanted to do damage to Perkins, it would probably be through a bodyguard or security.

Drake jokes about Kendrick Perkins beef on Instagram

The strangest rivalry of 2018 continues to blaze forward.

Hip-hop star (and Toronto Raptors superfan) Drake was involved in a bizarre beef during Game 1 of the Raptors-Cavs second-round series on Monday when he traded words with Cleveland Cavaliers backup center Kendrick Perkins.

After the game, Perkins told Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN that the “God’s Plan” singer was chirping at him while he was trying to talk to his former Oklahoma City Thunder teammate (and current Raptor) Serge Ibaka.

Instagram user Elliott Wilson later posted a screenshot of Perkins’ remarks to the Gram, and Drake left a comment joking that he was simply complimenting the hem on the veteran big man’s capris.

The unexpected spectacle in some ways overshadowed the Cavs’ 113-112 win in overtime, especially since the two men got into it multiple times. Game 2 will be on Thursday in Toronto, and hopefully Perkins will wear a more modest pair of pants this time.

Watch: Drake and Kendrick Perkins get into it after Game 1 too

The Drake and Kendrick Perkins beef extended to after Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals series between the Raptors and Cavaliers on Tuesday.

The rapper and Cavs center got into it during halftime of Tuesday’s game in Toronto, with Perkins being restrained by JR Smith. There were more words exchanged after Perkins’ Cavs pulled out a 113-112 overtime win.

ESPN’s Dave McMenamin shared this video from after the game. Drake appears to be saying that he “didn’t say” whatever Perkins thought he did.

Drake, who is from Toronto, is an ambassador for the Raptors and is often in attendance for their games, sometimes mixing things up with opposing players. Perkins was added to Cleveland’s roster late in the regular season but has not played in any postseason games yet, which explains why he was wearing the suit.

The Cavs added Perkins to serve as their muscle and to bring veteran leadership. He certainly is acting as the muscle with Drake.

Watch: Kendrick Perkins had to be separated from Drake

Kendrick Perkins had to be separated from Drake as the Toronto Raptors and Cleveland Cavaliers headed into the locker rooms for halftime of Game 1 of their playoff series on Tuesday.

Perkins was added to the Cavaliers’ roster just before the regular season ended but has only played in 15 minutes this season — playoffs included. He still found time to get into it with Drake, a Raptors super fan, during Game 1 in Toronto.

Drake is no stranger to getting involved in Raptors games and has even gotten into it with LeBron before. However, Perkins is someone he probably doesn’t want a piece of, so he should be thankful that JR Smith drove Perk away.

Cavaliers signing Kendrick Perkins for playoffs

The Cleveland Cavaliers have decided to add some size and veteran experience to their roster for the playoffs.

ESPN’s Dave McMenamin and Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Monday that the Cavs are signing Kendrick Perkins.

Perkins joined the Cavaliers for camp before the season but was cut and ended up going to the G League to play for the Canton Charge. He averaged 8.7 points and 7.1 rebounds per game in 27 contests with the team.

The big center has not played in the NBA since the 2015-16 season with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Report: Cavaliers likely to add Kendrick Perkins

The Cleveland Cavaliers sent six players packing on Thursday and added four back, meaning they have a couple of roster spots to fill. According to one report, Kendrick Perkins is a player they’re expected to add to the team.

The New York Times’ Marc Stein reported the news about Perkins:

Perkins, 33, has not played in the NBA since 2015-16 when he spent 37 games with the Pelicans. He was acquired by the Cavaliers in a trade from Oklahoma City the year before.

Perkins has a relationship with the Cavs in part due to his previous stint with the team. He joined the team for their training camp this season, was offered a spot on Ty Lue’s coaching staff, and he ultimately played for the team’s G-League team.

Perkins should be able to provide size and veteran leadership for the Cavs, which suddenly have a completely reshaped roster.

It’s not often that you see an NBA veteran head to the developmental league, but that’s what’s happening in the case of Kendrick Perkins.

Perkins was cut by the Cleveland Cavaliers at the end of training camp. However, he is sticking with the franchise and has agreed to a deal with the Canton Charge of the G-League, which is the Cavs’ affiliate, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The 32-year-old center has not played in the NBA since the 2015-2016 season when he appeared in 37 games with the Pelicans. The year before that he played in 17 games with the Cavaliers.

Cavs head coach Ty Lue was offering Perkins a job as a coach with the team if he wanted to go down that career path.

Tyronn Lue offering Kendrick Perkins a spot on Cavs’ coaching staff

Tyronn Lue is saving a spot on his coaching staff for veteran big man Kendrick Perkins should he so desire it.

The Cleveland Cavaliers head coach said this week that Perkins, who was invited to training camp with the team but was ultimately waived in the final round of roster cuts on Saturday, has an offer to join his staff.

“We’ve already talked about that,” said Lue, per Joe Vardon of “I think Perk was great because he holds everybody accountable. He plays the right way, tries to do the right thing every single day.

“You need a guy like that around,” Lue continued. “A guy who’s going to be the right person for the team, not worrying about himself, not being caught up in all his own personal things and will help the team out in any way he can.”

The 32-year-old Perkins, who previously was with the Cavs for a brief part of the 2014-15 season, is also familiar with Lue from his time playing with the Boston Celtics, where Lue was an assistant coach. Lue has tried in the past to lure other former Celtics to his staff as well.

As for Perkins, he still wants to play, but a player of his skillset doesn’t exactly have much on-court value these days. Thus, it might be time to leverage his leadership skills into a coaching position.

Report: Kendrick Perkins to join Cavs in training camp

Kendrick Perkins

Kendrick Perkins will join the Cleveland Cavaliers for their training camp next week, according to a report.

Perkins, who played with the Cavaliers three seasons ago, was at the team’s minicamp in Santa Barbara this week. You can see him on the left in this photo standing between Richard Jefferson and Derrick Rose:’s Joe Vardon says the 32-year-old center will continue to work with the team and be at next week’s training camp.

Although Perkins is working with the team, Vardon says it’s unlikely he makes the roster because of how much he will cost due to the luxury taxes involved in cutting another player to make room for him.

Perkins did not play last season but played 37 games for the Pelicans the season before.
