Former NFL cornerback Deion Sanders has spent well over a year going through a sticky divorce, but he took a step toward getting it all over with last week. Sanders and his now ex-wife Pilar finalized their divorce on Friday — 18 months after filing.
As the Dallas Morning News pointed out, the drama is far from finished. Pilar’s attorney, Larry Freidman, said a judge has severed multiple tort claims that Pilar has brought against Deion including fraud, breach of fiduciary, mental distress and physical abuse. Those will be heard in court later, but for now Deion is taking some time to celebrate his divorce becoming official.
The Sanders divorce proceedings have been ugly from the start. Last year, Deion accused Pilar of “jumping” him with one of her friends right in front of the couple’s kids. Prior to that, Pilar threw this very damaging accusation at Deion.
Given all the drama that has taken place since last year, you can understand why Sanders is relieved. That being said, he may want to save the champagne until the rest of the mess is sorted out.

What started out with the two still living together during the split has turned into a $200 million lawsuit. Pilar is alleging that Deion caused her “mental distress, public humiliation, and financial loss” with the “emotional and physical abuse” inflicted on her by him and others. Deion thinks it’s laughable that someone would claim he has $200 million lying around.
“Where they going to get that money from?” Sanders said during an interview with ESPN Radio’s Ben and Skin Show in Dallas. “Where they going to get that money from? That’s like me suing a homeless dude for a burger and some fries.
“I’d have four schools built right now (if I had that much money), at least. Just when you think they can’t get any more ignorant. Let me tell you what’s going to be next. Me and — what’s the little dude’s name? — Mini-Me are going to be sleeping together. Or he’s going to be my adopted son or something like that. That’s next. It’s horrendous, but it’s to distort my focus man.”
Some solid metaphors from Deion right there. Couldn’t have said it better myself. He also added that he’s only being attacked because he’s happy with where his life is at and because he’s “making a difference.” In reality, his wife is suing for $200 million in hopes that she can take him for everything that he has — whether it’s $200 million or much less. As for how much she will get, I suppose that depends on Pilar’s lawyer’s ability to prove that Deion really did cut her off financially and only offer her $300,000 in exchange for sex.

In a recent court filing, Pilar complains that Deion has cut her off financially. She’s asking for the court to make him pay her because she and her children are in survival mode. But here’s the kicker:
“Since [Deion] filed for divorce on December 21, 2011, he has given [Pilar] $300.00 and offered her money in exchange for sexual favors,” the filing claims.
Pilar says she turned that down.
At first it looked like matters between the two were amicable considering they were living together, but that has changed. It’s not going to get prettier anytime too soon, you can believe that.
