As if losing the French Open finals to Li Na wasn’t hard enough, Francesca Schiavone also had to suffer the embarrassment of being stripped of the championship trophy. Of course that’s only because it was given to her accidentally. Busted Racquet points out that when the trophies were handed out following the women’s final on Saturday, Na was correctly awarded the winner’s trophy, while Schiavone was handed a replica of the champion’s trophy instead of the runner-up’s plate. Schiavone was mistakenly holding onto that mini-replica trophy during both her acceptance speech and Na’s. Luckily the mistake was realized and she was eventually handed the proper platter, but not before getting teased. Now that she’s had it in her hands two years in a row I’m sure she’ll want it even more next year.
