Serena Williams

Serena WilliamsSerena Williams took home the biggest single payday in tennis history Sunday after beating Caroline Wozniacki in the finals of the US Open.

Williams destroyed Woz, her good friend, in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 to capture her sixth US Open title and 18th overall grand slam. She also took home $4 million thanks to the win.

The prize money for winning the US Open is $3 million. The other million came from Serena winning a $1 million bonus as the Emirates Airline US Open Series Champion.

Serena clinched the US Open series in August after beating Woz in three sets in the semis of the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati. It was her third time winning the US Open Series in the last four years.

The $4 million payout from the USTA eclipses the previous record of $3.6 million, which she held with Rafael Nadal. Her career earnings are estimated to be around $57 million, which is the most in women’s tennis history.
