Roman Reigns was a beast on the high school football field (Video)

WWE superstar Roman Reigns, who had a very eventful night at WrestleMania 31 on Sunday, played Division I college football at Georgia Tech. After seeing his high school football highlights, we understand why.

Reigns, whose real name is Joseph Anoa’i, recorded 120 tackles, 12 sacks and six forced fumbles as a senior at Escambia High School in Pensacola, Fla. Before his senior year, Anoa’i was equally impressive at Pensacola Catholic.

“Joe was as energetic and passionate a football player as he is in the ring,” Pensacola Catholic coach Greg Seibert said, via MaxPreps.com. “The consummate competitor, Joe’s attitude brought out the best in the players around him. He was a pleasure to work with as a high school athlete.”

Anoa’i had brief stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Minnesota Vikings in 2007 after he left Georgia Tech. He also played in the CFL in 2008 before becoming a professional wrestler.

Many expected Reigns to take the WWE World Heavyweight Championship away from Brock Lesnar on Sunday night, but a surprise champion emerged in what turned out to be an exciting twist.
