Cubs World Series trophy reportedly damaged at Theo Epstein charity event

The Chicago Cubs World Series trophy was damaged when passed around the crowd at a Theo Epstein charity event over the weekend, according to a report.

Epstein’s charity held its annual “Hot Stove Cool Music” concert on Saturday, and the World Series trophies he won as an executive for the Red Sox and Cubs were in the house. They were backstage for most of the show, but they were brought out at the end and passed around the crowd.

The Boston Globe’s Mark Shanahan says the Cubs trophy was damaged while passed around. The trophy, called the Commissioner’s Trophy, has 30 flags on it to represent each of the teams in MLB. Some of the flags apparently came off but were repaired in time for Sunday’s Cubs-Red Sox game at Fenway Park.

All’s well that end’s well in this case. And at least this trophy is easier to repair than the college football one, which also has broken in the past.
