Dee Gordon jokes that Stanton owes him a Bentley for 50 steals

Dee Gordon

Dee Gordon helped the Miami Marlins make history on Friday, and now the speedster thinks one of his teammates owes him a sweet gift.

Gordon went 2-for-5 with an RBI, run scored, and most importantly, a stolen base in the Marlins’ 7-1 win over the Atlanta Braves. The stolen base was Gordon’s 50th of the year. Teammate Giancarlo Stanton has 53 homers this season, meaning the two have combined to give Miami a 50/50 season.

According to the Miami Herald, they’re only the third combination of teammates to accomplish the feat.

Informed about the mark, Gordon joked to The Herald’s Clark Spencer that Stanton owed him a Bentley.

“He owes me like a Bentley or something,” Gordon said with a laugh, via Spencer. “He’s making like $30 million. Tell him to give me a Bentley.”

While we doubt Stanton is going to hand him a Bentley, that’s pretty cool for the Marlins to have both a 50-homer hitter and 50 stolen base guy. And all Gordon needs is 49 homers before the season ends to become the first 50/50 player in MLB history!
