Anthony Edwards’ quote about Jamal Murray before second round goes viral

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards hasn’t been fazed going up against the defending champion Denver Nuggets. That was evident before their second-round series even began.

The Timberwolves have gone up 2-0 in their Western Conference semifinals series against the Nuggets.

Before Game 1, Edwards was asked about whether he ever idolized the Nuggets players when he was younger in the same way he did Kevin Durant. Edwards, who beat Durant’s Phoenix Suns in the first round, has been vocal about being a huge Durant fan growing up.

But the Timberwolves star bluntly responded that the Nuggets are closer to being his peers rather than his idols.

“Nah. These guys are three, four years older than me. … Hell naw. What is [Jamal Murray] 27? I’m gonna turn 23, dog. [Kevin Durant] is 36 or 35, come one man,” said Edwards.

Reporter: "It's gotta be fun to see all these OGs… Jamal [Murray's] been around for a minute, is that a guy you've been tracking?"

Edwards’ talk has been backed up by his play on the court. The Timberwolves have been unafraid to go at the Nuggets all series long. Minnesota has taken both games on the road by an average margin of 16.5 points to start the series.

Edwards has been the catalyst for the Timberwolves’ success. The Georgia alum has averaged 35.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.0 assists through two games so far. Edwards has also been the head of the snake for the team defensively.

The Timberwolves’ defense has flustered the Nuggets so thoroughly that Murray resorted to hurling a heat pack at the referees during Game 2.
