Giancarlo Stanton supports Barry Bonds as Marlins hitting coach

Giancarlo StantonIf the Miami Marlins are serious about hiring Barry Bonds as a hitting coach, it’s good to know that their top player supports the move.

Giancarlo Stanton joined TMZ Sports for an interview and was asked what he thought about his Marlins considering hiring Bonds.

“It’s all about the bottom line. Controversies aside, the man was a genius,” Stanton said of Bonds. “For that knowledge to watch us play every day and give us back that knowledge is what we need.”

The Marlins certainly could use some stability within the franchise and veteran leadership given how often they change players and coaches. To start, they’ll have a new manager next season in Don Mattingly.

While Bonds has a lot of knowledge regarding hitting and appears to be a somewhat successful coach, we question how well this would work for the team. Not only are there questions about whether Bonds would move to Miami for the job and travel with the team, but you have to wonder how he would work with Frank Menechino as tandem coaches.

Unless they’re hiring Bonds to take some pinch hit at-bats or as more of a limited roving instructor, a full-time position probably doesn’t make a lot of sense.
