If Aroldis Chapman vs. Nate Schierholtz was the prelude to the Reds-Cubs bench-clearing incident on Thursday, then John Baker’s walk celebration was certainly the star of the undercard.
Baker worked a 2-out walk off Chapman in the top of the 9th inning and celebrated like he hit a walk-off home run.
Baker did a big fist pump and then pointed to the sky like a closer after a save before making his way up the line to first. Keep in mind that Baker’s antics came after Chapman buzzed Schierholtz’s tower twice in a row before getting the strikeout.
Chapman didn’t seem to notice Baker’s celebration, but it’s possible some of his teammates did.
That was pretty brazen of Baker (and funny). He’s lucky if he doesn’t end up with a fastball in the ear once this GIF gets around.
