Jose Bautista: Cardinals ‘took page out of Bill Belichick’s book’

The St. Louis Cardinals, one of Major League Baseball’s more storied and revered franchises, found itself in the news Tuesday after a report the club is being investigated by the FBI for allegedly hacking into the Houston Astros’ network to steal information. During a radio interview that same day, Jose Bautista took a shot at the head coach of an NFL team that recently went through a scandal.

While a guest on Yahoo Sports Radio, the Toronto Blue Jays outfielder dropped Bill Belichick’s name in reference to the recent developments surround the Cardinals.

“I’m, though, intrigued to know why the FBI is involved and not just the MLB’s investigations department,” Bautista told Yahoo Sports Radio, via the Chicago Sun-Times. “So, that’ll be interesting to see. But it looks like they just took a page out of Bill Belichick’s book.”

Bautista rarely holds back when it comes to his words. He had the last laugh after a game against the Orioles earlier this season. He also had a war of words with Baltimore’s Adam Jones during a game in April. This time around, Bautista had Belichick in his sights.

Of course, Bautista wasn’t the only one to compare the two franchises. Once word of the Cardinals hacking report made its rounds, memes and jokes quickly appeared on social media, with Belichick and the Patriots prominently featured.
