The Miami Marlins could be ready to make their latest bold, head-scratching move.
According to multiple reports, the Marlins are considering hiring Barry Bonds as a hitting coach. The team is said to have been considering the possibility the past few weeks.
CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman says the Marlins would still keep incumbent coach Frank Menechino and just employ Bonds alongside him.
MLB.com’s Joe Frisaro says Bonds has a friendship with Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria, which could help his chances of getting a job.
Bonds has worked as a special instructor for the Giants during spring training. He has also worked individually with some hitters such as Alex Rodriguez. It is not known whether he would have interest in working full-time as an MLB coach, however.
