Report: Rangers, White Sox have had discussions about Jose Quintana

The Texas Rangers’ mission to bolster their starting rotation continues to be quite far-reaching.

According to a report by Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports on Saturday, the Rangers have had discussions with the Chicago White Sox about All-Star lefty Jose Quintana in addition to their previously reported interest in Chris Sale. Talks did not progress very far, however, thanks to differences in perceived trade value.

The 27-year-old Quintana is 8-8 this year with a 2.89 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP, and 125 strikeouts in 21 starts. A dependable arm with excellent control, Quintana has also been pursued by the Boston Red Sox in recent days. He is under contract through at least the 2018 season.

The Rangers could use a third quality left-hander to go along with Cole Hamels and Martin Perez. They seem willing to explore all avenues possible in order to upgrade their pitching staff, so it would be a surprise to see them let the trade deadline go by without swinging at least one deal for rotation depth.
