Cliff Robinson plans to open marijuana growing operation

cliff-robinson

Cliff Robinson spent 18 seasons in the NBA, playing for the Blazers, Suns, Pistons, Warriors, and Nets. Now, he’s looking to start a business in Portland, his basketball home for eight years.

Robinson is an advocate for marijuana and will be speaking at a conference next month. He also has his sights on a marijuana growing operation.

“It’s an opportunity for me to get out there and tell people a little bit about myself outside of basketball,” Robinson said, according to the Portland Business Journal. “People in Oregon know me as a basketball player, but I want to distill the stigma around cannabis, the misperception that athletes and cannabis are incompatible.”

While, obviously, the use of marijuana is penalized by professional sports leagues, Robinson believes its benefits can be of use to athletes.

“When you talk about guys playing on a professional level, there’s a lot of physical and mental stress that comes with that, and to have something available to you that has health benefits, I don’t see the issue with it myself.”

The plan is for Robinson’s business to have product available for sale by the end of 2016.

Robinson was suspended for violating the NBA’s substance abuse policy while with the Suns, Warriors, and Nets, which is probably the least surprising thing you’ll hear today.
