There was brief excitement when Dwyane Wade was linked to the New York Knicks in free agency, but such a marriage was reportedly never more than a pipe dream.
According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, Wade coming to New York was “pure fantasy” from the start, with an NBA source calling the prospect “so ridiculous.”
The Knicks are operating on a budget, particularly after the additions of Joakim Noah and Derrick Rose, and Wade’s demands of $20 million are unrealistic. Their signing of Courtney Lee was the final nail in the coffin on that front.
The Knicks were just one of the teams Wade was linked with after it was revealed that he was speaking with other teams in frustration after being dissatisfied with the offer he received from Miami. It may all be a negotiating ploy, or Wade may be serious, as some NBA executives think. Only time will tell.
