Steve Francis’ estranged wife says former NBA star has ‘severe substance issues’
The personal life of former NBA star Steve Francis seems to be spiraling out of control, and his estranged wife believes substance abuse issues have a lot to do with that.
In divorce documents that were obtained by TMZ, Shelby Francis claims Steve has “severe substance issues” and asked a judge to order him to undergo drug and alcohol testing. Shelby and Steve are still working out the terms of their divorce settlement, and Shelby says the three-time NBA All-Star went to rehab “prior to and during the divorce,” which was filed in June 2015.
Francis turned himself in on Monday on a warrant that stemmed from a burglary charge back in June. The ex-Houston Rockets point guard allegedly asked a bartender for help finding his keys and led the employee to an unlocked car that he claimed was his. Francis then proceeded to steal $7,000 in items — including a diamond ring — while the bartender held a flashlight for him thinking it was his car.
Francis, who was released on $1,500 bail, could face up to five years in prison if convicted of third-degree felony burglary. He was also charged with driving while under the influence in November. Francis allegedly said some very unwise things to police officers during that arrest.
Things are not going well for Stevie Franchise, to say the least.
