Steve Kerr plans to be more experimental with Warriors this season

That 73-win campaign put together by the Golden State Warriors in 2015-16 deprived coach Steve Kerr the opportunity to tinker with his team. That will not be the new case in the new season.

Kerr said he plans to experiment with his personnel a bit more instead of worrying about regular season records.

“I don’t think we’ll have that this year,” Kerr said, via J.A. Adande of ESPN. “We’ve kind of been through that. We’d rather win a championship than set a record, that’s for sure.

“Last year we felt like we could do both — and we were pretty close — but we couldn’t pull it off. This year’s more about just growing and getting better and experimenting the first couple months of the season.”

As for whether that will involve resting players as LeBron James and the San Antonio Spurs have done, Kerr was noncommittal.

“It’s a tricky issue on this team because people come out to see these guys play,” Kerr said. “I am sensitive to that. Not at the expense of our team’s health, but if guys are healthy, at the very minimum I want to throw them out there — for a few minutes, anyway — so fans get to see them play. But health always comes first.”

There seems to be some expectation managing going on in the Bay Area. With the addition of Kevin Durant, the team seems to be planning on some bumps in the road as they integrate and come together, and are trying to warn the fans about it.
