i can't agree more that sports brings people together in a work setting. i am a teacher and coach the girls basketball team at the high school i teach at, and i get chewed out more times for what i am doing with my team than what i am doing with my profession. its about teamwork, comming together and achieveing a common goal. people are passionate about it, more so than anything else. Sports are non-religious peoples religion. Churches don't hold as many people as sports arenas, stadiums, and domes. Where else do that many people congregate and devote thier energy for a common cause? Im not saying, im just saying.

"Every single year without fail, we seem to get the nauseating reports of all the lost office productivity due to March Madness. Usually the figures are released right around this time, saying something like “March Madness costs the economy 80 bazillion dollars” because dummies are slacking at work, spending more time checking their bracket busters than their TPS reports."

Forget sports poools. A hell of a lot more time at my place of employment is wasted by the woman in the department next to mine bitching about her husband to her two co-workers and anyone else willing to listen. Basketball??? She and her gabbing companions would think Mayo is something spread on a sandwich and Love is something her husband is lacking.

I would agree with report. Sports are the about only thing people have in common with most office friends, so March Madness, the World Cup, and daytime playoffs baseball are some of the best times for "team building."
