I bring this news to you, only because I’ve never seen anything like it before. Texas Tech beat Lousiana Tech 86-31 on Wednesday night in Lubbock. The 31 points might not look like much to you, but I’ll tell you, they were hard earned. From the AP recap:
Texas Tech (6-3) outscored the Bulldogs 46-3 from midway through the first half to midway through the second half, going up by as many as 45 during the run.
Louisiana Tech (1-5) did not hit a single field goal for more than 19 minutes while turning the ball over 19 times. Louisiana Tech’s 31 points were the fewest by a Texas Tech opponent since the Red Raiders beat Hardin-Simmons 53-32 in 1948.
I’ve seen bad before in my life (the 2007 Miami Dolphins, case in point), but I really haven’t seen anything quite like a basketball team getting outscored 46-3 during a stretch. And these are two Division I-A teams, not Bob Knight’s bunch against a group of middle schoolers. How do you go 19 minutes without making a shot? Not even a layup? Not even a three point heave? How can you have such a poor performance? Man, that’s impressive.

And it still didn’t look as bad as the Knicks and the Celtics.
I have to attribute this to the genius of coach Knight.
