The initial word on Minnesota Vikings safety Jamal Adams does not sound good after he suffered a serious injury during Saturday’s preseason contest against the New York Giants.
The three-time Pro Bowler was chasing down wide receiver Calvin Austin III in the red zone when he went down with a non-contact injury. Adams remained on the field as the Giants scored a go-ahead touchdown to open the second quarter at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

Several fans pointed to the artificial turf as the root cause of Adams’ injury, with MetLife Stadium long having a reputation for causing serious lower-leg injuries among NFL players. Many called Adams the venue’s latest victim.

While the Vikings have yet to confirm the severity of Adams’ injury, head coach Kevin O’Connell’s message to reporters sounded like an early eulogy for the veteran’s 2026 season.
“In such a short amount of time, Jamal has done such an unbelievable job coming here,” O’Connell said, via FOX News’ Scott Thompson. “You feel his passion every single day. Certainly felt it spending a few moments with him before they took him in.
“You’re just crushed for him. The role that he was kind of paving for himself, and then just having a personality, experience, toughness that he brought in such a short amount of time. We’re going to miss him.”
Adams signed with the Vikings less than a month ago, but there was already growing buzz about him during his limited time with the team. Adams, who has played safety for most of his career, looked impactful throughout training camp as a hybrid linebacker for Minnesota.
