Billboard bashing Kansas football program gets taken down

A billboard bashing the horrendous football program at the University of Kansas went up in Topeka this week, but the message was not displayed for very long.

On Wednesday, the person behind the billboard wrote on Reddit that the billboard was pulled by the advertising company within 24 hours. A full refund was issued, and there are rumblings that Kansas’ athletic department was behind the decision to have it taken down.

“Hey guys! I’m one of the people behind the campaign/website calling for KUAD Sheahon Zenger’s firing,” Reddit user saveksfb wrote. “We anticipated some pushback on the billboard but did not expect that it would come down within 24 hours.

“We’re currently exploring our next steps but I’d like to get your input on what avenues we should explore to get our message out since it seems to have a tendency to get silenced. Any help is appreciated, if you want to remain anonymous, feel free to PM.”

Here’s what the billboard looked like:

@nate_bukaty @bobfescoe With underdogs like @UMBC_MBB and @RamblersMBB turning it up during @marchmadness, what do you think about @KU_Football becoming a Cinderella story again? @LeBatardShow has his opinions…. #FireZenger https://t.co/Ilzn6V1Ny9 pic.twitter.com/DB96MHo8ON

The billboard was paid for by the person behind the website saveksfb.com. That site’s main objective is to get Kansas athletic director Sheahon Zenger fired.

Mark Mangino led the Jayhawks to back to back bowl wins in 2007 and 2008, the former of which came in the Orange Bowl and capped off a 12-1 season. He was fired in 2009 following a 5-7 season, and Kansas has not won more than three games in a season since. In fact, the Jayhawks have just three wins in their last three seasons combined.

Kansas has been responsible for some incredible botched plays in recent years, and fans are understandably tired of being a laughing stock.
