Nicki Meyer upset dad didn’t win Big Ten Coach of the Year
Urban Meyer has coached at Ohio State for three years and has gone 24-0 in conference play. Despite his undefeated record in the conference, Meyer has never been selected Big Ten Coach of the Year. Not even this year, when he helped lead the Buckeyes to an 8-0 record in conference and 11-1 season overall, even though preseason Heisman Trophy candidate Braxton Miller got hurt before the season.
This year’s Big Ten Coach of the Year was Jerry Kill, who helped Minnesota go 5-3 and 8-4 overall. Last year it was Mark Dantonio, and the 2012 winner was Bill O’Brien.
Nicki Meyer, who is Urban’s daughter, is sick of her dad being overlooked for the award, and tweeted her thoughts Tuesday:
@OSUCoachMeyer = coach of the year every year in my book! #undeniable #1 #retweet – who decides this anyway??? #rigged

@Nicki_07 The award has become the "Congratulations for not losing as many games as we expected" award. @OSUCoachMeyer

There are several coaches who could make a strong claim for the award. Kill has done a great job, as has Gary Andersen at Wisconsin, but Urb was most deserving of the award this year. Nicki was right. No surprise her mother Shelley agrees.
