Steve Sarkisian hired as Alabama offensive coordinator

Steve Sarkisian Alabama

Alabama is going from one fired USC head coach to the next when it comes to their offensive coordinator position.

The Crimson Tide were looking for a new OC after Lane Kiffin announced he had accepted the Florida Atlantic head coaching job. They found one with a coach who was already helping the team: Steve Sarkisian.

Sark was able to secure gig assisting Alabama’s offensive coaching staff in early September, less than a year after being let go by USC over his drinking problems. He endured a stint in rehab and was mostly viewed as untouchable by programs, except for Alabama, which has become a spot where coaches can lay low and improve their images.

In Sarkisian, the Tide are getting a coach who was so successful at running his own program he was hired for the USC job. Even though that didn’t work out, much like in Kiffin’s case, Bama will have someone who is overqualified for the position.

Even though running a successful program tends to lead to coaches being plucked from your staff, it also is working the other way for Alabama, which has become a home to previously successful head coaches who were fired and are now rebuilding their resumes. This particular move should be mutually beneficial.
