Tim Irvin flashes cash after switching commitment to Auburn
Tim Irvin is already learning the hard way that as a high-profile recruit, you have to watch everything that you do on social media.
Irvin is a defensive back from Florida who originally committed to Texas as part of Charlie Strong’s heralded “Florida Five.” However, Irvin switched his commitment to Auburn over the weekend and plans to enroll at the school this week.
The social media controversy came when Irvin allegedly sent a Snapchat of himself holding cash along with the caption, “money baby.”
Irvin later sent the photo over Twitter and intimated that the money was a graduation gift from his family:
Now deleted RT @T_irvin2: Wanna thank my Aunt and others who gave me my gradation gift pic.twitter.com/vVu7tpJiY1

Irvin later deleted that tweet.
It is unclear whether Irvin sent the tweet along with the language about his aunt giving him the gift to clarify the situation in hopes of getting skeptics of his back. He seemed taken aback that his tweet caused a stir and followed up with this:
Lol it's craxy how ppl worrying about me I do have family

Keep in mind that Irvin mentioning his aunt makes sense because former Dallas Cowboys great Michael Irvin is his uncle.
Maybe the money Irvin was showing off really was just a gift from his family, but the timing of the whole thing is suspicious. After all, we have seen countless recruits flash cash shortly after committing to schools and later delete the messages after a controversy ensued. And like we saw with Mike Bellamy at Clemson, it’s the athletes who show off the cash who usually don’t have successful careers. Auburn better be careful with Irvin.
