Brett Favre Hates Training Camp

One year ago today on August 17, 2009, Brad Childress took Brett Favre to the Minnesota Vikings facility and made it official that the Hall of Fame quarterback would be joining the Purple People EatersTraining camp was over.  Guess what?  Training camp has once again come and gone for the Vikings and it appears that Favre is once again set to return.

NFL Network’s Scott Hanson, via Pro Football Talk, has reported that Favre’s third annual retirement party is likely coming to a close as he’s allegedly on a jet heading north to Minnesota.  Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer is also reporting that Favre informed teammates on Tuesday that he will be returning.  Is there really any doubt in anyone’s mind that Brett just does not want to participate in training camp at this stage of his career?

When it comes to the public images of athletes, it seems that honesty is always the best policy.  The steroid users who own up to their mistakes are normally forgiven.  If Favre just came out and said, “listen, I’m getting old and my body can’t handle training camp anymore,” people would probably give him some respect.  Instead, he finds every excuse under the sun as to why he is contemplating a return.  He turns the entire situation into a game, one which leaves his teammates in limbo and causes a huge distraction throughout training camp.

In any event, we’ve learned to expect the expected when it comes to the Favre saga.  Until next year…
