Chad Ochocinco to be released by Patriots
Thursday marked a great day in Schadenfreude if you dislike Chad Ochocinco. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Patriots are releasing the wide receiver after shopping him and being unable to trade him on Thursday.
The move is not at all surprising. Chad never was comfortable with the Patriots and saw fewer and fewer snaps as the season went on last year. He looked lost on the field and only registered 15 catches for 276 yards and one touchdown.
Not only was Ochocinco’s lack of cohesion and production for the Patriots a problem, but it became a near certainty that he would not be with the team after they signed Brandon Lloyd and Jabar Gaffney. We’d like to say that he’ll catch on somewhere else, but his skills have been declining since his final year with the Bengals, so he doesn’t have much to offer at this point.
