The Indianapolis Colts and New York Giants saw their hopes of winning their Week 1 games end in similar fashion: on lost fumbles.
The Colts were down 27-23 to the Cincinnati Bengals with under four minutes left and began a drive from their 25. They moved to the Cincinnati 30 and had a 3rd-and-15 situation. Andrew Luck completed a pass to Jack Doyle near the first-down marker, but Doyle was stripped of the football. Clayton Fejedelem picked it up and returned it 83 yards for a touchdown to give the Bengals a 34-23 lead, which was the final score.

At MetLife Stadium, the Giants cost themselves a shot to win their game late with a lost fumble. The Giants’ defense forced a 3-and-out by the Jacksonville Jaguars with under a minute to go in a 20-15 game. Kaelin Clay muffed the punt and the Jags recovered the ball. That prevented the Giants from having a shot at one last drive to take a lead. They lost 20-15.
Though Doyle isn’t going anywhere, don’t be surprised if Clay’s fumble costs him his job. He was recently picked up on waivers and probably will not have a huge margin for mistakes.
