Darius Slay runs out of gas day after signing $50 million contract
On Friday, Detroit Lions cornerback Darius Slay signed a $50 million contract extension. On Saturday, he ran out of gas on the way to practice.
Slay had returned home to grab some things, and on his way back to practice, he simply ran out of fuel.
“Oh, Lord, I just ran out of gas,” Slay said Saturday, via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “It was crazy. I was trying to get my stuff and my junk just ran out. I was like, ‘Oh, I forgot.'”
Slay said he didn’t show up late to any meetings, so all was forgiven. According to teammate Quandre Diggs, though, it would not be forgotten.
“He was almost late coming in the building so we had meetings so we couldn’t give him no hassle about that,” Diggs said. “But he got $50 mil, he can get some gas. That’s him. That’s Slay, though. He’s never going to change.”
He may not have been late, but Slay should be thanking his lucky stars that he doesn’t play for Bill Belichick. He’ll want to keep an eye on that fuel gauge in the future.
