Dez Bryant informs Cowboys he won’t attend camp, is willing to miss games

Dez Bryant has officially informed the Dallas Cowboys that he will not show up to work until he gets a long-term contract, according to a report.

Sources reportedly told ESPN’s Ed Werder on Monday that Bryant personally called Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones to inform him that the team has a deadline of Wednesday — the deadline players have to sign their franchise tenders — to sign the 26-year-old wide receiver to a long-term deal. If an agreement can’t be reached by then, Bryant will not attend training camp. He also claims he is serious about missing regular season games.

Shortly before the Fourth of July, a report indicated that Bryant and the Cowboys were on the verge of a contract extension and would make an official announcement after the holiday weekend. That obviously was not the case.

Bryant’s agent Tom Condon confirmed earlier this offseason that his client is serious about missing regular season games if a long-term agreement is not reached. The Cowboys reportedly feel Bryant is bluffing, as they believe he needs the money and could be having some financial issues.

Whatever the case, it’s obvious the two sides have not made progress. We knew Bryant wasn’t happy when he sent this tweet a few weeks ago, and the fact that he called Jones personally instead of letting his agent make the phone call would certainly confirm that Bryant is frustrated.

UPDATE: Jones later denied that Bryant called him.
