Eagles interview Duce Staley for head coaching position
The Philadelphia Eagles interviewed running backs coach Duce Staley for their vacant head coaching position on Friday.
ESPN’s Ed Werder originally reported the interview, with the Eagles confirming it to NFL.com’s Albert Breer.
Staley was a running back for the Eagles from 1997 to 2003, and is regarded as a fan favorite in Philadelphia. He has been on the Eagles staff since 2011.
It’s unclear how serious of a candidate Staley is. A cynic might note that he fulfills the requirements of the Rooney Rule, and he’s only been a coach for just under five years and has never been above running backs coach. Perhaps the Eagles really do want a fresh voice, however.
