Eagles sign Zach Ertz to five-year, $42.5 million extension
The Philadelphia Eagles just gave a big-time vote of confidence to tight end Zach Ertz as a long-term building block.
According to a report by Ian Rapoport of NFL.com on Monday, the team has signed Ertz to a five-year, $42.5 million extension, which includes $20 million in guaranteed money. Those numbers will be good enough to make the Stanford product the fourth-highest paid tight end in the NFL.

Ertz, 25, recorded 75 receptions for 853 yards and two touchdowns in 2015. While he occasionally struggled with an uncertain role under ousted head coach Chip Kelly, sometimes failing to gain separation from fellow tight end Brent Celek, Ertz really turned it on in the last few games of Philly’s season.
The talented former second-round pick in 2013 should feature more prominently in the Eagles offense under new head coach Doug Pederson, and this deal is the latest affirmation of that.
