Geno Smith finds poll ranking him worst quarterback ‘hilarious’

Geno Smith Jets

Geno Smith was ranked No. 32 — the worst projected starting quarterback in the league — in a poll by ESPN Insiders released last week. The New York Jets QB is brushing aside the disrespect and laughing off the low ranking.

“I laugh at that. I laugh at it. It’s hilarious,” Smith said of his reaction to being ranked last, via the New York Post.

“It was hilarious last year, too,” Smith said. “It doesn’t matter at this point. We’ve got to work on us as a team. That’s why I hate to talk about individual stuff because it’s a team game. No matter what they rate me, wherever we finish at the end of the year is most important.”

Smith is entering his third year as Jets QB after the team drafted him early in the second round in 2013. Though he has committed 41 turnovers the past two seasons, he has shown an ability to win and play respectable football at times (see his performance the final three games of last season). He does not appear to be a reliable starting quarterback, but he probably is not the worst starting QB in the league as the poll suggests. Still, he isn’t anything special, otherwise there wouldn’t be reports about the Jets wanting to move on from him.
