Report: Giants, Odell Beckham not close to new contract
Odell Beckham Jr. won’t be holding out and will attend training camp with the New York Giants, but that reportedly doesn’t mean a new deal is close.
According to Ralph Vacchiano of SNY, though Beckham publicly stated there would be no training camp holdout on his part, the two sides are not close on a long-term deal and there has been little movement in recent weeks.
A source also cautioned that, while Beckham currently has no plans to hold out, he could very easily change his mind if the lack of movement in contract talks continues. Beckham wishes to be the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL, but to this point, the Giants have not been willing to accommodate those demands.
The Giants apparently want to see how committed Beckham is before getting far into contract talks. Maybe he knows this and it is factoring into his decision-making.
