Matt Prater kicks 64-yard field goal for NFL record (GIF)

matt-praterMatt Prater set an NFL record by kicking a 64-yard field goal on the last play of the first half of Sunday’s Denver Broncos-Tennessee Titans game to make it 21-20 Tennessee.

The previous record-long field goal was 63 yards, which was achieved by four kickers: Tom Dempsey on November 8, 1970; Jason Elam on October 25, 1998; Sebastian Janikowski on September 12, 2011 and David Akers on September 9, 2012.

Elam, Janikowski and Prater all kicked their field goals in Denver, where the mile-high elevation allows the ball to travel through the air easier.
